'Feeding Those Who Feed Us'

For eight weeks in the summer (July and August), FTWFU draws California Southern Baptists together to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of migrant workers and residents of impoverished California communities, primarily in the San Joaquin Valley. Ministries to more than 20 California Migrant Centers and low-income communities include:

  • distribution of food (flour, corn meal, sugar, beans and rice) to low income farm workers and families
  • distribution of clothing (one pair of shoes, one pair of pants, two shirts and a backpack with school supplies) to children ages 4-12
  • distribution of a backpack and school supplies to those ages 13-17

Sponsoring churches in most locations provide evangelistic activities such as Vacation Bible School, worship rallies and medical/dental screening using the California Southern Baptist Convention Mobile Medical and Dental Clinics. The screening includes referrals to medical/dental personnel; no procedures are performed. Each location is staffed by professional medical and dental personnel (enlisted by the sponsoring church).

The following are some ‘Help Needed’ Dates for FTWFU, Patterson:

Thursday, July 26th at 6:30pm for flyer distribution and site clean-up at the Patterson Migrant Center (Meet at FBC, Newman then for carpooling to the migrant center).

Thursday, August 2nd at 6:30pm for flyer distribution and further site clean-up at the Patterson Migrant Center (Meet at FBC, Newman then for carpooling to the migrant center).

Sunday, August 5th at 4:30pm for the 5pm – 7pm registration kick-off outside the PAL Center in the Patterson Migrant Center. Live music is needed.

Tuesday, August 7th at 9am with van or pick-up 40 bags each containing 22.8 pounds of food staples from SaveMart in Patterson (meet at the market) and transport to FBC, Newman for Patterson program.

Thursday, August 9th leaving at 8am with a van or pick-up for the California Southern Baptist Convention offices in Fresno for the Patterson program to pick-up school supplies, Bibles, clothing items, and backpacks. (Meeting place to be determined)

Friday, August 10th at 9am at FBC, Newman, 910 R Street in Newman to help pack backpacks with school supplies and a shirt and pants sized to fit each child, or packed with school supplies and a Bible for each teen for the Patterson program. This job requires at least eight persons to finish within a 3 – 4 hour time frame.

Friday, August 10th at 6pm transporting 40 bags of food staples from FBC, Newman to the Patterson Migrant Center

Friday, August 10th at 7pm distributing bags of food staples to residential units occupied by Migrant families in Patterson. There are 40 such units there.
