'Come, Lord Jesus!'
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 NASB
For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
Over the years, I've heard it said that we Believers should not be asking the Lord to take us out of this world—which we may be prone to do when times get hard, when our hearts break, and when we feel like we can't go on. I get that. On the other hand, Scripture clearly encourages us to be waiting “for” our Savior “from heaven!” That is, we are to “eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;” we are to be “looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus;” we are to “eagerly await Him;” and we can say “COME, Lord Jesus!”
Beloved, our Savior wants us looking forward to His coming! His return--and our eternity with Him--is going to be AWESOME!!! Moreover, our eager waiting ought to compel us “to (DAILY) deny ungodliness and worldly desires,” to “(DAILY) live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,” to (DAILY) be faithful to Him in service, and to be fervently spreading the Good News, because...
“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be! (Revelation 1:7)!
