Devotion for September 11, 2017

Psalm 141:3-5a NLT

Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.

Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness.
Don’t let me share in the delicacies of those who do wrong.
Let the godly strike me! It will be a kindness!
If they correct me, it is soothing medicine. Don’t let me refuse it.

Heavenly Father, since we Believers will open our mouths approximately 700 times today, we ask that You “take control of what (we) say!” We know the power of the tongue (James 3), and we ask Your help guarding our mouths so that our words bring honor to Your name.

Father, we also ask today that You DON'T let (us) drift toward evil.” We know that evil action starts with evil desires—with hearts and heads thinking about and meditating on what they should not. For this reason, we ask You to daily use Your Word and Spirit to change us right at the root of the problem—on the INSIDE...

Last of all, Lord, help us humbly and wisely receive criticism from our brothers and sisters —because “it” is “a kindness!” Make it productive rather than destructive, Lord, so we increasingly grow more like Your Son...

We ask this in Your Son's name...

AMEN!!!
