'Eternity Planted in Human Hearts'

Ecclesiastes 3:11b
He has planted eternity in the human heart...

Have you ever wondered about God's planting “eternity in the human heart?” With eternity planted in the human heart, people (by God's design!) desire MORE than what this temporary life can give them. Furthermore, they desire MORE than what their temporary, limited, wearing-out body can do. With eternity planted in the human heart, folks, God has guaranteed that NO PERSON will ever find complete satisfaction pursuing temporary, earthly pleasures or worldly pursuits! If a human pursues this world, he/she will always crave more—because we were created to crave the eternal—to crave HIM! Each person was created in God's image with hunger for the eternal—and that hunger can only be satisfied by having the eternal, living God...

So God “planted eternity in the human heart!” But He didn't just “plant” it and then leave us without a means to get it! NO! “God our Father, who loved us,” by “His grace gave us (the) eternal comfort and (the) wonderful hope” we long for (2 Thessalonians 2:16)--eternal life through His Son:

And this is the way to have eternal life—to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One You sent to earth” (John 17:3). "Anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life” (John 3:36). “He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “I tell you the truth, those who listen to My message and believe in God who sent Me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24). “For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in Him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:47). “And they will rise again...to experience eternal life” (John 5:29). “Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life” (John 4:14). “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from Me” (John 10:28). “For you (who believe) have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living Word of God” (1 Peter 1:23). “When this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself” (2 Corinthians 5:1). “The righteous will go into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46). “And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (1 John 5:11).

So God made a way for us to HAVE the eternal through His Son, but many decline His free gift. Instead of believing the truth about Jesus, these people decline through 1) outright rejection of Christ, 2) through ignoring the sacred and unfailing message of salvation that gives eternal life, or 3) they make up/believe some lie about how they can have life. These people who decline have a horrible eternity in their future, because “Anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit (by REJECTING or IGNORING the Good News of Christ) will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences” (Mark 3:29). “The King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons'” (Matthew 25:41). Those who reject or ignore the Son “will never experience eternal life but remain under God’s angry judgment” (John 3:36). “And they will go away into eternal punishment” (Matthew 25:46). “They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from His glorious power” (2 Thessalonians 1:9).

So, yes—ALL have “eternity” in their hearts, but the eternal future of each and every person depends on what he/she does with Christ: either they have eternal, satisfying life through faith in the Son, or they face eternal judgment and punishment. Each person either receives eternal life by believing in the Son, or he/she chooses eternal punishment (by rejecting or ignoring the sacred and unfailing message of salvation that gives eternal life...

Hmm...

O Lord, how wonderful You are, to have created us with “eternity” planted in our hearts, and to have provided (for everyone who believes!) what we LONG for! May we who believe be about YOUR business each day—1) spending our energy “seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man” gives us (John 6:27), 2) magnifying You in everything we say, think, plan, and do, and 3) telling others the sacred and unfailing message of salvation that gives eternal life! Use us, Lord, to plant seeds for You. Help us tell others about their need for a Savior—and His eternal life! Burden us for those on their way to “eternal destruction,” on their way to being “forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power!”

We ask this in Your name, Lord Jesus...

AMEN!!!
