'"Little One" Story'

Psalm 147:5a NLT
How great is our Lord! His power is ABSOLUTE! His understanding is BEYOND COMPREHENSION!

Matthew 22:29
Jesus replied, “Your problem is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God.”

While teaching some young children at church, right after I reminded them that those who trust Jesus go to live with Him forever, one child interrupted...

“Teacher, how is God going to take us to heaven? How is He going to do that?”

“I don't know how, but God has POWER!” I exclaimed. “HE can do what we can't.” By the look on his face, I could tell the child wasn't satisfied. So I reminded him, “Remember God just 'spoke,' and He made things out of nothing? (The child nodded) We don't know how He did that (because we can't do that—we have no power!), but God DID do that, because He HAS power! Since He has power to make things out of nothing, He has plenty of power to take us to heaven when we die!” The child smiled. Relief washed over his face. He had forgotten what the Scriptures said...and he just didn't know. We high-fived...

Thinking on this account this morning, it reminded me how we Believers often forget what the Scriptures say (or worse, we “don't” well “know the Scriptures,” so we “don't” well “know the power of God.”). But brothers and sisters in Christ: just because we forget or “don't know” the Scriptures, that doesn't change the fact that God's “power is absolute!” And just because we forget or “don't know” how God is going to do something He has said He will do, that doesn't mean He can't! And when we don't understand something, that doesn't mean God is confused: “His understanding is BEYOND COMPREHENSION!” Moreover, He always does “what is right” (Psalm 31:1)!

Heavenly Father, We Believers praise You today for your absolute “power!” We praise You to today because Your “understanding is BEYOND COMPREHENSION!” We praise You today because...although we may not understand “how,” Your “power is absolute,” and You CAN! Moreover, we praise you today because You WILL do everything You said You would in Your Word, whether we “know the Scriptures, and...know the power of God”...or not!

Holy Spirit, today we ask You help us trust our all-powerful God! Please “give (us) spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that (we) might grow in (our) knowledge of” Him! In addition, we pray that our “hearts will be flooded with light so that we can understand the wonderful future He has promised to those He called.” Furthermore, we ask You help us “BEGIN to understand the incredible greatness of His power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:17-20). We ask this in the Son's name...
