'You "Belong to God" and are "Bound for Heaven!"'
Hebrews 3:1a NLT
And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are bound for heaven...
When I came across these words in Hebrews three today, it reminded me of my son's new-found exuberance for the Lord. That is, the reality of who he is through faith (a child of God!), and the reality of where he is going (heaven!)...these two truths have been spilling over into his every day life: more and more he is remembering who he belongs to (and he's trying to follow his Savior!). More and more he is remembering where he's “bound” (so his temporary school trials and daily sibling frustrations seem to bother him far less!).
Brothers and sisters in Christ, how about us? How well are we remembering (being transformed by!) these two simple but precious truths? Consider writing down “You belong to GOD!” and “You are bound for HEAVEN!” on a note card. Carry it around with you for a few days, so you are daily reminded:
You “belong to GOD!”
“For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And He gave them right standing with Himself, and He promised them His glory.” (Romans 8:29-30) You “belong to GOD!”
“See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for He allows us to be called His children (through faith in His Son Jesus!), and we really ARE!” (1 John 3:1) You “belong to GOD!”
Though “I once thought” of many things as “so very important,” NOW “I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with Him.” (Philippians 3:7-9a) You “belong to GOD!”
“Give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask?” (Romans 12:1) You “belong to GOD!”
“For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:20) You “belong to GOD!”
You are “bound for HEAVEN!”
“I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be....I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the price for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.” (Philippians 3:12-14) You are “bound for HEAVEN!”
“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ....standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.” (Philippians 1:27) You are “bound for HEAVEN!”
“What we suffer now is NOTHING compared to the glory He will give us later. And we know that God causes EVERYTHING to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” (Romans 8:18,28) You are “bound for HEAVEN!”
“For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18) You are “bound for HEAVEN!”
AMEN, Lord Jesus! Help us daily remember and be transformed by these truths! We Believers “belong to God and are bound for heaven!”
