Hebrews 1:8-9 NLT
To His Son He says,
“Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
Your royal power is expressed in righteousness.
You love what is right and hate what is wrong.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed You,
pouring out the oil of joy on You more than on anyone else.
I've been thinking about “power” today. In the movies, “bad guys” want power so they can express it doing dastardly, evil deeds. And “good guys” in the movies, they want power so they can put the bad guys away. In real life, however, human beings crave power so they can have control—power to control their own circumstances, power to protect those they love, power to do what they want, power to make their dreams come true...
Thank goodness! That's NOT how our Savior used His “power!” Jesus Christ's “royal power” as God's only Son was “expressed in RIGHTEOUSNESS!” He used His real, “royal power” to do what was “right”—to bring us His Kingdom:
God-in-flesh used His “royal power” to be “made lower than the angels” for a little while, to become “flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death,” (2:9, 14)
He used His “royal power” to suffer for us, so God could make “Him a perfect leader, One fit to bring (us Believers) into (our) salvation,” (Hebrews 2:10)
He used His “royal power” to taste and suffer “death for everyone in all the world,” (Hebrews 2:9)
He used His “royal power,” His God-reflecting glory, to “cleanse us from the stain of sin,” (Hebrews 1:3)
He used His “royal power” to “bring His many children into glory,” (Hebrews 2:9-10)
He used His “royal power” to make us “holy” so we could have “the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call (us Believers) His brothers and sisters,” (Hebrews 2:11)
He used His “royal power” to go “through suffering and temptation” for us, so that He could “help us when we are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:18)...
Lord Jesus, we thank You! Thank You for expressing Your “royal power” in “RIGHTEOUSNESS!” Thank You for using Your “royal power” to bring us Your Kingdom! On account of the amazing use of Your “royal power,” may we Believers be compelled to live for You, so we further Your Kingdom and bring You glory!
We ask this in Your name, Lord...
