'Interaction Between God and Moses'

Exodus 33:12-23 NLT

One day Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But You haven’t told me whom You will send with me. You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that You look favorably on me, let me know Your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.”

The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”

The Lord replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”

Moses responded, “Then show me Your glorious presence.”

The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose. But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” The Lord continued, “Look, stand near me on this rock. As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen.”

Heavenly Father, I love this interaction between You and Moses—it reveals so much! We Believers come to You today, and are encouraged by these Scriptures as we ask...

First of all, we ask You to give us hearts that increasingly desire to do Your will, just as Moses desired. Yes, Lord: keep transforming our hearts so we each day desire to 1) go where You want us to go, 2) do what You want us to do, and 3) say what You want us to say...all for the spreading of Your glory.

Lord, we also ask You “let (us) know Your ways so (we) may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor.” That is, “We ask (You) to give (us) complete knowledge of (Your) will and to give (us) spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9)...so we can correctly do what You have called us to do, right where we are at! “Then the way (we) live will always honor and please (You), and (our) lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, (we) will grow as (we) learn to know (You) better and better” (Colossians1:10).

Third, we ask You make us a people DETERMINED to journey “with” You, as Moses was! Give us hearts that desire Your presence above all else! Stay at the forefront of our minds!

Fourth, we ask You to help us remember that we Believers ARE set “apart from all other people on the Earth!” Since we know we've been set apart by Your Son through FAITH—use Your Word and Spirit to transform us, so every aspect of our lives reflects Your goodness, Your love, and Your holiness!

Finally, we ask You to “show (us) Your glorious presence” each day—open our eyes so we recognize and see Your amazing “goodness” constantly passing “before” us! Your goodness compels us to 1) do Your will, 2) “know” You better, 3) stay “with” You, 4) be “set apart,” 5) serve You, 6) love You, and 7) live for You and Your glory...

Heavenly Father, we ask these in Your Son's name, knowing these requests are according to Your will! You “will indeed do what (we) have asked, for (You) look favorably on (us), and (You) know (us) by name”...
