2 Chronicles 36:22-23 NLT
In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled Jeremiah's prophesy by stirring the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation into writing and to send it throughout his kingdom: This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build Him a Temple at Jerusalem in the land of Judah. All of you who are the Lords people may return to Israel for this task. May the Lord your God be with you!”
The temple was finally finished, as had been commanded by the God of Israel and decreed by Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, the kings of Persia.
Proverbs 21:1 NLT
The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He turns it wherever He pleases.
My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the Lord. “And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
WOW! The political arena sure is a mess this year. As we Believers wonder about our nation's future...
Isn't it wonderful that we have a glorious, mighty, all-powerful, all-wise God whose “thoughts” and “ways are FAR BEYOND” what we see, think and know?
Isn't it a relief to be reminded that kings' hearts and rulers' hearts are “directed by the Lord; He turns (them) wherever He pleases?”
Isn't it amazing to realize that the Lord can (and does!) use those OUTSIDE His flock to do and bring about His will? (the kings of Persia, the pharaoh with Joseph, Pilate with Jesus...)?
Isn't it a comfort to know that “rulers plot together against the Lord...against his anointed one” (Psalm 2:2) and against His good ways, but GOD is in control?
Isn't it reassuring that one day “the Lord will punish...the proud rulers of the nations on earth” (Isaiah 24:21), and that He has already placed His “chosen King on the throne” (Jesus! Psalm 2:6)?
Lord, no matter what happens in the upcoming election, I pray Your Spirit gives us mighty enabling and desire to do as we Believers have been instructed to do: to simply “live for (You) and make the Kingdom of God (our) primary concern” (Matthew 6:33). Moreover, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill (us) completely with joy and peace because (we) trust in (You). Then (we) will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit”...no matter what happens in this election (Romans 15:13). Furthermore, help us rest on Your amazing truths so we “don’t worry about anything,” but instead, “pray about everything, tell (You) what (we) need, and thank (You) for all (You have) done” (Philippians 4:6) Lastly, help us follow Your instructions: 1) that our words/decisions/actions do “not dishonor (You) or curse any of your rulers” (Exodus 22:28), and that we would 2) “pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.” Yes, Lord, rightly burden us to “pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
We ask this in Your name, Lord Jesus...
