'No More Wars!'

Psalm 120 NIV
I call on the Lord in my distress, and He answers me.
Save me, Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.
What will He do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue?
He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.
Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar!
Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

Confession...

Almost every morning I have to play umpire and put out “sibling feuds” for my youngest three...and I hate that. I'd love to say these three never fight—that Jesus lives so powerfully inside them they are always thinking about others, building one another up, and looking for ways to help one another—but that's simply not true. What is true, unfortunately, is no matter what rules I make, no matter what advice I give, my kids end up fighting over super stupid stuff (how to “properly” put a bagel in the toaster, who should be able to drink coffee, how much milk is OK to use in cereal, how to chew food)...truly, it's ridiculous, but I haven't been successful in helping them see that. This morning however, we had Psalm 120 as our Bible read. Using this verse, I was able to ask and remind these three children (and myself)...

I call on the Lord in my distress, and He answers me.”
Are you calling “on the Lord” and asking Him to help you, letting HIM be Your King, letting HIM rule over your heart and your desires, letting HIS Words and HIS ways be Your solution and answer—because “He answers” you?

Save me, Lord...
Are you being careful to live for God when you ask Him to “save” you from your situations?

What will He do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue? He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.
How is your tongue? When what you say is NOT glorifying God, it's because your heart is not right with God (you are trying to be the “ruler”...trying to be god!). Note: AWOL tongues are punished...

I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
What are you “for?” That is, when you are “for” the Lord, when you are “for” thinking, speaking, and doing as God has instructed, you are “for PEACE”...and you bring God's peace into every situation, everywhere you go (no matter where you “live” or who you “live among”). On the other hand, any time you are NOT thinking, speaking, and doing as Christ would, you are “for war”...and your words, speech, and actions cause strife, light fires, do damage, make war...

Hmm...

Lord, help me, help my kids, and help my church family—to “call” on You, live for You, have Spirit-controlled tongues (because YOUR SPIRIT controls our hearts), and help us be a people who are increasingly “for PEACE”...bringing Your peace everywhere we go! We ask this in Your name, Lord Jesus (no more wars!)...

AMEN!!!
