'We Can Too!'

Daniel 2:19b-23 NLT
Praise the name of God forever and ever, for...
HE ALONE has all wisdom and power.
HE determines the course of world events;
HE removes kings and sets others on the throne.
HE gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
HE reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though
HE Himself is surrounded by light.

I thank and praise You, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded...

I read from the book of Daniel today, chapters 1 through 4—what amazing stories these chapters contain! I encourage you to read these. The chapters are about four youths—Daniel and his three friends—who are taken from their homes in Judah. Captured against their will (losing their families, their homes, their friends, their culture), these four young men are chosen to serve as advisers to the Babylonian king. They serve to the best of their ability, all the while staying true to their faith, to their convictions, and to their hope, their good God. Specifically...

1) These four chapters clearly show these young men understood that GOD “ALONE has all...power” and is always in control—they understood that GOD was determining the events in their own lives, in “the course of world events,” and that HE was the One removing powers and setting “others on the throne.” They kept this in mind as they performed their duties with godly integrity (so their lives glorified God). Moreover, they faced each day and each (seemingly undesirable) situation with this in mind—trusting the One who has “all power” and who is in control...
(We can trust Him too!)

2) And these four chapters clearly show they understood that God “ALONE has all wisdom”—so they asked for and depended on HIS wisdom and instruction as they faced every situation. They honored God by humbly following His wisdom and instruction—even when their faith went against human logic or against the laws/rulers of the land. They knew their destiny was in God's hands, not in human hands...
(We can follow His wisdom and instruction too!)

3) The chapters also clearly show these men gave GOD the credit and the glory for every answered prayer, every enabling they had, and every miracle He did, so that ALL those around them would understand “How great are His signs, how powerful His wonders! His kingdom will last forever, His rule through all generations. All the people of earth are nothing compared to Him. He has power to do as He pleases among the angels of heaven and with those who live on earth. No one can stop Him or challenge Him, saying, 'What do you mean by doing these things?'" Daniel 4:3, 35
(We can give all credit and glory to God too!)

4) Furthermore, these chapters clearly show these men asked for and depended on GOD's “strength” to face whatever they had to face, and to do whatever needed to be done...
(We can depend on God's strength too!)

Lord, we thank You today for the great reminders and lessons found in the first four chapters of Daniel! Use Your Spirit and Word to wash over us with these truths. Through the Spirit's enabling and through renewing our minds with Your Word, we can think and do like they did...
