'No Elite "Face Control!"'
Matthew 22:8-10 NIV
“Then He said to His servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
While thumbing through a National Geographic this morning, a picture of some physically beautiful people caught my eye. It was a photograph of young people dancing at an elite dance club in Russia. The caption under the picture read, “Elite clubs practice ruthless 'face control,' admitting only the beautiful and the connected.”
Judging by that picture, I'm pretty sure there is NO WAY I'd ever be admitted there. First of all, the people were all very young...and I'm more “seasoned.” Moreover, the young people were strikingly beautiful physical specimens..
.while I'm a specimen with lots of visible “wear and tear.” Furthermore, I have no connections! That is, there is no one “important” or “on the inside” that would want me in there! No one would seek me or choose me so I could get in! Thinking about these elite “face control” practices of the Russian night clubs, I couldn't help but marvel at the CONTRAST in the way the Lord—our King—admits people into His Kingdom "club:"
Few of distinguished rank, character, or “connection” are called to be Christians.
Few of the wise, mighty, noble, or “beautiful” embrace the doctrine of the cross.
Christians are usually “weak” and “foolish!” Christians are often people of average mental abilities!
Our King seeks to gather and let in “ALL the people—the bad as well as the good!”
ANYONE “gets in” and has the right "connection" through faith in the only connection there is (which God freely provides!): that connection is Jesus, His Son...
Folks: I'm so glad God doesn't use elite “face control” standards!
Heavenly Father, we praise You today because You “invite to (eternal life) anyone” willing to accept Your Son as Savior and Lord! Moreover, through Christ You have given every one of us the inside “connection!” Since “it is because of (You) that (we Believers) are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption,” we ask that You use us right where we are to “go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone (we) find.” Help us boldly share Your Good News with “all the people...the bad as well as the good,” so Your “wedding hall (will be) filled with guests” who love Your Son! We ask this in His name...
