'Hero Elite!'

Romans 8:30 NLT
And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself. And having given them right standing, He gave them His glory.

Romans 8:11
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

Story...

I have a very specific coffee cup I always use—and it's a Bubba brand travel mug. My husband received it as a Christmas present two years ago, and when I saw that baby, I pulled out my “what's-yours-is-mine” marriage card...and I made it mine! This specific mug is called the “Hero Elite” on Amazon, and it's well named—because the mug itself is handsome...it LOOKS like a hero! Also, the mug acts like a “Hero” because it's virtually INDESTRUCTIBLE! Furthermore, it does it's job like a “Hero” (stuff stays hot for HOURS!). Finally, it washes like a “Hero” (it's DISHWASHER SAFE!)! Isn't my mug fantastic, folks? Each morning, I seek out my “Hero Elite” Bubba mug...and I fill it (over and over!) with the cheapest brand of decaffeinated coffee (which is quite ironic, I think—a “Hero” holding such worthless stuff!)...

As I was praying this morning, while holding my handsome, indestructible, hard-working, machine-washable “Hero” mug (filled with worthless decaf!), a funny thought occurred to me: it occurred to me that God does NOT choose and handle His Children as I do my mug! That is, He does the exact opposite! I'm no handsome “hero”—I'm a clay jar! And I'm not indestructible—I'm super “FRAGILE!” Moreover, I'm not really great at doing anything (I'm more like the mug with the missing handle!)! Furthermore, My Father NEVER “machine washes” His children—He gently, lovingly, hand washes us of us each in His Son's blood! Once washed, He fills His "fragile" children with “great treasure” and power: His own “Spirit living within!” This precious “treasure” within—the Spirit and Good News message - powerfully transforms those yielded to the Son and Word! As He transforms, He repairs the cracks and brokenness so we function more like “Hero Elites,” because of the precious "treasure" within us..

Heavenly Father, how marvelous it is that You don't require us to be “Hero Elites” in the beginning! How wonderful it is that You use a “fragile clay jar” Believers instead! We are cracked and broken, but “chosen” and “called” and transformed by the powerful “treasure” within! Your precious, powerful Spirit changes us and enables us to be far more and do far more (for Your glory) than we could ever do or be on our own...

We yield our “fragile” vessels, Lord: Make us strong, “pure” and “clean” through Your Spirit, so we glorify You more and more, and are “ready...to use” for any and “every good work” (2 Timothy 2:21)...like the “Heros Elite” Your Spirit and Message make us to be!

AMEN!!!
