Titus 2:6-8 NLT
In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.
The book of Titus is a letter from Paul, written to Titus (Titus 1:4). In this letter, Paul instructs Titus so he can successfully set up the church “on the island of Crete” (Titus 1:5). While reading through this little book, Titus 2:6-8 caught my attention—because the instructions in these few verses would radically change the world (for God's glory!) if we Believers truly took them to heart. So that's my prayer today, folks—starting with you and with me...
“encourage the young men to live wisely”...
Heavenly Father, help US to encourage other Believers “to live wisely!” That is, use us—as You desired to use Titus—to urge our believing children, our believing family members, our believing friends, our believing coworkers...to live according to real wisdom: the perfect wisdom of Your Word!
“And you yourself must be an example to them”...
Lord, make us daily mindful that we are to be CHRIST-LIKE “EXAMPLES” to the Believers around us! Moreover, we ask that You help us (through Your Spirit's enabling) to be the good examples You have called us to be...not only in “doing (the) good works” You prompt us to do, Lord, but also in living for You: may our thoughts, words, and deeds ALL be good, God-glorifying, Christ-like “examples!”
“Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching”...
Wow, Lord: what would happen in this world if “EVERYTHING” we Believers did reflected Your Son and Your teaching—reflected Your Holiness, Your “integrity,” and Your serious Good News message of salvation? That is, what if “everything” we did and said at home, at work, and at play reflected Your Son???
“Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized”...
And Lord, what if every Believer was actually always ready, willing and eager to lovingly “teach the truth” they knew about You—with pure words, with pure motives, and in a manner that couldn't be “criticized?”
O Lord Jesus: Cause us Believers 1) to think on these verses today, 2) use Your Spirit and Word to speak to us, convict us, and transform us, and 3) CHANGE us Believers, Savior...so we can be better used by You as encouragers, as examples, as teachers, and as people who reflect You in this dark world!
