'Priests'

Leviticus 10:3, 8-11 NAS
Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what the Lord spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored.’ ”

The Lord then spoke to Aaron (the priest), saying, “Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you will not die—it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations—and so as to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean, and so as to teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them through Moses.”

Revelation 1:5b-6
To Him who loves us, and released us from our sins by His blood, and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father; to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 2:9
But you are...a royal priesthood...a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

As I was reading through Leviticus 10 this morning, I was reminded (by Nadab & Abihu's story) that God's priests were to be set apart. That is, God had specifically chosen Aaron's line, and Aaron's set-apart sons (and future descendants) were to always 1) treat God “as holy,” 2) follow His instructions completely, 3) “honor” Him by doing and living as He had instructed, 4) “make a distinction between the holy and the profane,” 5) make a distinction “between the unclean and the clean,” and 6) “teach” others “all” the Lord had “spoken”...

Folks, being a priest was such a privilege and an honor, because one got “come near” and be “near” Holy God—but it was also “all in” calling, an “all-or-nothing” job occupation, a “do-it-right or die” job...

And it's the same job our Savior has assigned to us Believers...

Heavenly Father, help us understand (every day) that Jesus “who loves us, and released us from our sins by His blood...He has made us to be a kingdom, PRIESTS to His God and Father.” We have been chosen and set apart to be “a royal priesthood...a people for God's own possession, that (we) may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called (us) out of darkness and into His marvelous light.” Because of this high calling, Father, we ask You to use Your Spirit and Word to convict us and transform us into the image of our perfect priest—Your Son, Jesus Christ. As You change us, we will increasingly 1) treat You “as holy,” 2) follow Your instructions completely, 3) “honor” You by doing and living as You have instructed, 4) “make a distinction between the holy and the profane,” 5) make a distinction “between the unclean an the clean,” and 6) “teach” others “all” You have “spoken.” Give us desire and enabling to do this, Lord, to be “all in” for You...

We ask this in the Savior's name, Father. Make us into a “royal priesthood” that glorifies You!

AMEN
