Isaiah 9:2 NLT
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 8:12, 12:46, 35b-36a
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life....I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark...Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So LIVE as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
So we have officially entered into the “Season of Lights:” All around us, buildings and houses are being decorated with lights, Christmas trees are lit up, special candles are glowing...These little lights remind me that not too long ago God sent His Son Jesus to be the “great light” to shine in our “land of deep darkness.” His light “can never” be diminished or extinguished. This light is “THE light of the world.” We who have put our “trust in the light” are to “follow” Him, because we “have the light that leads to life.” We who trust and follow Him have “become children of the light”...
“Children of the light:” may you go about your day today with Christ's life “light shining” brightly in your “hearts!” Though you are as fragile as Christmas lights (“like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure!”), you were made to shine! Today (everyday!) you are His “light” decoration! You are His little “lamp” intended to give “light to everyone” ...right where you are!
Lord Jesus, we may be small, but help us to “live as people of light ” and brightly SHINE for You! May Your light within us “produce only what is good and right and true”...so more will place their trust in You, and “so that everyone will praise (our) heavenly Father!” We ask this in Your name, Lord, for Your glory...
