'In His Temple Everything says, "GLORY!"'
Psalm 29 NAS
Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in holy array.
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, the Lord is over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful, the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve and strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
The Lord sat as King at the flood; Yes, the Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
I have to say, ever since God appointed me to read this particular Psalm during a monumental downpour (while camping! With tree-splitting thunder and heart-stopping displays of lightning!), this Psalm has been one of my favorites. That one mighty thunderstorm caused me to considerand marvel at the amazing power of God's “voice.” Huddled up in our tent trailer, I experienced God's analogy! In that moment, I understood how God's “powerful, majestic voice” (His Word) “BREAKS IN PIECES” and “STRIPS” away what doesn't belong, it “HEWS OUT FLAMES OF FIRE” to purify and cleanse, it “SHAKES THE WILDERNESS” desires still lurking within me, and it gives BIRTH to more of His Son's satisfying life! His “voice” does this in every Believer, beloved, because we are His temples, and “in His temple everything” is to say “GLORY!”...
“...You are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you” (1 Corinthians 3:16)
“...Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own. For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.“ (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
“For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, 'I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,' says the Lord. 'And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you. And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,' Says the Lord Almighty.
Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.“ (2 Corinthians 6:16b-7:1)
Heavenly Father, we Believers ask You to give us increasing awareness that we are Your “temples,” and that everything about these “temples” ought to be saying, “GLORY!” Because of our “temple” status, Lord, PLEASE use Your powerful, majestic “voice” (Your Word and Spirit!) to “BREAK IN PIECES” and “STRIP” away what doesn't belong, to “HEW OUT FLAMES OF (CLEANSING) FIRE,” to “SHAKE THE WILDERNESS” desires still lurking within us, and to give BIRTH to more of Your Son's satisfying life! Cause us to desire that You “sit as King forever” in our hearts, Lord! ”Give (us) strength to” let You reign, so “everything” in us—“everything” we say, think and do—increasingly cries “GLORY!”
