'Glory to God in the Highest!'

Luke 2:8-20 NAS
In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And...The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Brothers and sisters in Christ: let's be mindful today of the glorious truths these verses reveal...

1) “I bring you good news of great joy which will be for ALL the people...a SAVIOR”...
On that night so long ago, our God made the BEST public announcement of all time—He announced the arrival of the Savior! Those first men to receive this spectacular news (the “news...for ALL the people!”) may have been the very shepherds who supplied the lambs for the Temple sacrifices...the lambs whose blood was used for the forgiveness of sins! How amazing it is to consider this, that the angel of God may have invited these very shepherds to “Behold, THE Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)!

2) “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth PEACE among men with whom He is pleased.”
How appropriate for us Believers to daily join with the angels in saying “Glory to God in the Highest”—because the promised Messiah has COME! Our Savior in the manger grew up, He never sinned, and He was crucified....so He could OPEN the way to “peace” with God through faith in Him for the forgiveness of sins!

3) “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then...”
Those shepherds who heard the “Good News” were instantly affected by it! They immediately dropped everything and “HURRIED” to the Savior! The angel's announcement caused them to rearrange their priorities (that of caring for the sheep!) and instead “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33)! This “Good News” should affect you and I the same way—every day—because our Savior is IS THE GREATEST TREASURE! HE IS THE MOST MAGNIFICENT GIFT OF ALL!

4) “ When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And...The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen”...
The shepherds “MADE KNOWN” the “Good News” they had received! Moreover, when they “went,” they glorified and praised “God for all that they had heard and seen!” Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we too ought to “MAKE KNOWN” the “Good News” we have received “about this Child!” Moreover, we too ought to glorify and praise God for ALL we have 1) “heard” and learned through His Word, and 2) for ALL the wonders we have “seen” Him do!

“Glory to God in the highest,” Father! We Believers rejoice in Your “Good News” announcement: Your Son brings the Believer “peace!” Your glorious message changes us—we are to seek You “first!” Furthermore, Your “Good News” is ours to “MAKE KNOWN!”

AMEN!!!
