'Who Has Done Such Mighty Deeds?'

Isaiah 41:4 NLT
Who has done such mighty deeds, summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?
It is I, the Lord, the First and the Last. I alone am He.

Matthew 1:1-2, 5-7,15-16
This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers (1-2)...
Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah). Solomon was the father of Rehoboam (5-7)...
Eliud was the father of Eleazar. Eleazar was the father of Matthan. Matthan was the father of Jacob.
Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah (15-16).

Luke 2:1-7
At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child.
And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

Reflecting on Isaiah 41:4 today, I think it's pretty cool that my God is THE GOD “Who has done such mighty deeds”...especially since I am so insignificant and small. Think about it, folks: our God already did the mightiest deed of all—that of providing a Savior! Moreover, every day He does the mighty deeds of 1) freely loving us, 2) sustaining us, 3) caring for us, 4) clearing the way for us, 5) planning each moment for us, 6) strengthening us, and 7) leading us through His Word and Spirit!” Brothers and sisters in Christ: Who else “has done such mighty deeds?”

Moreover, it blows my mind that our GOD summoned “each new generation” (and the events surrounding it!) “from the beginning of time!” Although sometimes I can't even “summon” myself out of bed, our great God planned in advance and BROUGHT ABOUT the events of every moment (just as He did with “the first census,” the time to travel to “Bethlehem,” the “time...for” Jesus “to be born,” and the discouraging lack of “lodging!”)! Yes folks: it truly is mind-blowing that our God has been directing ALL the affairs of the human race from the beginning...for our best good and His glory!

Finally, Isaiah 41:4 reminds me that our God “alone” is “the First and the Last” One who works powerfully and personally in the lives of His people! Yes...our God has been personally orchestrating and engineering and setting up the affairs of our lives—just as He did for Mary and Joseph and Jesus!

Lord, we Believers stand in AWE of You this day! Thank you for being our ALL-POWERFUL GOD—the “First and the Last” One who alone “has done such mighty deeds, summoning each new generation from the beginning of time!” Clearly we can see (through Your Word, through Your historical track record!) that You are SAFE for us to count on and trust in: we trust in what You have already done for us (Your Son!), we trust what You are doing, and we know You will continue to DO...for our best good and for Your great glory!

AMEN!!!
