'Jealous!'

Exodus 34:14 NASB
—for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God...

Deuteronomy 4:24
For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 6:14-15
You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the Lord your God will be kindled against you...

Funny story...

MANY years ago (back when my spouse and I had only one child—and that first child was less than two), we used to go grocery shopping together. Since my husband was (and still is) the only chef in our house, he would make all selections from the produce isle, while “baby and I” would casually meander and trail behind with the cart...

One grocery day, while “baby and I” were casually following (we were about three-fourths an isle behind my spouse), I noticed a BEAUTIFUL blonde woman eyeing my husband! While my husband was focused on selecting potatoes, this lady was trying to select him! Folks, I knew EXACTLY what she was doing! I watched her from afar (in horror!) as she calculated (with accuracy!) what produce he might head for next...

“OH NO YOU DON'T, LADY!!!” my head shouted! Instantly, baby and I switched gears. My wee daughter laughed as I pushed our cart into hyper-drive—her wispy hair flew as I recklessly raced to be by my husband's side. On the way, my heart OUTRAGED that this woman wanted any part of my husband! My heart outraged because 1) I had selected him long ago—and he was MINE! 2) I had chosen him long before he even thought of me! 3) I had passionately pursued him! 4) I had given him all of me! 5) I was his first and best love, 6) I wanted first place, and I had NO desire to share—because what we had was GOOD! By the time I got to my husband's side (my spouse was absolutely clueless as to what was going on, by the way), that beautiful woman took one look at my face, and she knew my name—it was “JEALOUS!—BACK OFF!” She turned her cart and hurriedly left the isle, left the store...

Hmm...

Beloved, let this funny story remind you today of a serious truth: the love of Your life—Your God and Savior—“whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God!” 1) HE selected you long ago—and you are HIS! 2) HE chose you long before you even thought of Him! 3) HE passionately pursued you! 4) He gives you all of Himself through Christ! 5) HE is your first love, Your BEST love, 6) HE rightly desires and rightly deserves first place in Your life—because of His love for you, what He has for You, what He has done for you...only He is truly satisfying, perfect, and GOOD!!!

Let your Lord be first, Beloved! He is yours and you are His! Jealously pursue Him and put Him above all...

AMEN!!!
