'Secrets'

Colossians 1:25-29 NLT
God has given me the responsibility of serving His church by proclaiming His entire message to you. This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people.  For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.

When I was a child, “secrets” did one of two things to me. First of all, if there was some “secret” I didn't know the details of, I would do all that I could to hound the secret-bearer until the hidden was revealed. On the other hand, if I was the keeper of a secret, I COULD NOT KEEP IT! No matter how hard I tried, I ended up telling somebody else...

The word “secret” in New Testament Scripture refers to “The mystery of Christ, which in other ages was not made known (to) the sons of men, (but) is now revealed (to) his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit (Eph. 3:4, 5). And what is this mystery? It is the riches of God’s glory among the Gentiles. The peculiar doctrine of the Gospel was a mystery which was before hidden, and is now made manifest and made known. But the great mystery here (in Colossians) is the breaking down of the partition-wall between the Jew and Gentile, and preaching the gospel to the Gentile world, and making those (Gentiles: you and me!) partakers of the privileges of the Gospel state who before lay in ignorance and idolatry: That the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers together of His promise in Christ by the gospel (Eph. 3:6). This mystery, thus made known, is Christ in you (or among you)...the hope of gloryChrist is the hope of glory. The ground of our hope is Christ in the Word, or the Gospel revelation.” We Believers today are to join Paul in declaring this secret: “the nature and methods of obtaining” forgiveness, God's grace, and salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord (Matthew Henry).

Heavenly Father, today I ask that we Believers live lives so full of love, hope, joy, forgiveness, and integrity (because we have CHRIST and His Spirit in us!), that those around us can't help but hound us: make them hungry to know our secret—Your Son! Moreover, I ask that You make us UNABLE to keep the Good News to ourselves, "so we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present (our family members, our coworkers, our friends, our enemies) to (You), perfect in their relationship to Christ.” Yes, Lord: help us increasingly “work and struggle” to make the Gospel known, “depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within” us! We ask this in Your Son's name...

AMEN!!!
