'Our Advocate'

1 John 2:1 NASB
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

Hebrews 9:24
For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;

Romans 8:34
Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

Hebrews 7:25
Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Sometimes, taking a moment to reflect on the meaning of a word can sure open my eyes to the wonder of my Savior. Consider the word “Advocate,” for example: that word means one who speaks, pleads, or argues “in favor of, a supporter or defender. One that pleads on another's behalf. An intercessor” (American heritage High School Dictionary). How thrilling it is to think Jesus is right now “with the Father,” in “the presence of God for us,” acting as our “Advocate!” He is (right now!) supporting and defending His followers, pleading on our behalf!

Furthermore, consider the definition of “intercession:” this word means an “entreaty in favor of another, especially a prayer or petition to God in behalf of another” (American Heritage High School Dictionary). And “intercede” means “to act as a mediator, to plead on another's behalf.“ Those definitions give me goose bumps when I consider how Scripture uses those words: Jesus “always lives to make intercession for” Believers! He—“Jesus Christ the righteous”—“always” acts as our mediator! Moreover, He “ALWAYS” entreaties in favor of us, (“ALWAYS”) praying and petitioning to God in our behalf!

That's powerful stuff, folks! What a wonderful “Advocate” we Believers have! Our Savior is “always” pleading and praying FOR US!

Brothers and Sisters in Christ: REJOICE today in your “Advocate!” “It is the Advocate’s own righteousness that He” pleads “for us.” “He has been righteous to the death, righteous for (us); He has brought in everlasting righteousness. This the Judge will not deny.” Moreover, our “Advocate is always 'at the right hand of God,' which denotes that He is ready there—always at hand; and that He is ruling there—all power is given to Him. Our friend is Himself the judge. He is there, not unconcerned about us, not forgetful of us, but making intercession. He is agent for us there, an advocate for us, to answer all accusations, to put in our plea, and to prosecute it with effect, to appear for us and to present our petitions. And is not this abundant matter for comfort? What shall we say to these things? What room is left for doubting and disquietment? Why art thou cast down, O my soul?” (Matthew Henry)

THANK YOU FOR OUR “ADVOCATE,” Father! We can live for You each day with ”Jesus Christ the righteous” interceding “for us”...He is FOR us, “at” Your side!
