'Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT'

Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT
Imitate God, therefore in everything you do, because you are His dear childrenLive a life filled with lovefollowing the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

As I was reading through Ephesians yesterday, these verses popped out at me. They grabbed my attention because they say so much....

"Imitate God, therefore in everything you do”...
Because God, for Christ’s sake, has forgiven us Believers, we are to be followers of God, or imitators of Him. We believers “must be holy as God is holy, merciful as He is merciful, perfect as He is perfect. But there is no one attribute of God more recommended to our imitation than that of His goodness. Be...imitators of God, or resemble Him in every grace, and especially in His love, and in His pardoning goodness” (Matthew Henry).

"Imitate God, therefore in everything you do, because you are His dear children”...
Matthew Henry said, “Children are obliged to imitate their parents in what is good, especially when dearly beloved by them.” Beloved—you are dearly loved by God! The character we Believers bear (through God's Holy Spirit indwelling us!) “obliges us to resemble Him, especially in His love and goodness, in His mercy and readiness to forgive.” And only those who imitate Him in these are His children.

"Live a life filled with lovefollowing the example of Christ."
We are to follow Christ's example and love as He loved...no exceptions. Matter of fact, we are to “CLOTHE (our)selves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:14).

He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us”...
We Believers have “the most free and generous love that ever was, that great love wherewith 'He loved us.'" Beloved: we are “all joint sharers in that love, and partakers of the comfort of it, and therefore should love one another, Christ having loved us all and given such proof of His love to us; for He 'offered Himself as a sacrifice for us!'“

“a pleasing aroma to God”...
As Jesus offered Himself with a design to be accepted of God—completely obeying His Father in everything He thought, said, and did—so we should desire and strive to offer ourselves. As we imitate God (as Jesus did), our lives will also be pleasing aromas “to God.”

Heavenly Father, help us Believers increasingly desire and strive to “IMITATE You in everything—as dear children should! Use Your Word and Spirit to transform our hearts so we live lives “filled with love!” Make us more like Your Son, Father (transformed by Christ's great love!), so our lives are pleasing aromas! We ask this in Your Son's name...

AMEN!!!
