'Reasons to Praise'
But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent Him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that He could adopt us as His very own children. And because we are His children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are His child, God has made you His heir.
“Abba, Father,” we Believers praise You today...
1) “before Christ came...we were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world.”
We praise You today because “before Christ came” into our lives, we were “slaves” of “this world.” We didn't know we were slaves, but we were nonetheless!
2) “But when the right time came, God sent His Son...”
We praise You today because You “sent Your Son” to end our slavery! In sending Your Son, the wonders of Your divine love and mercy were made known!
3) “God sent Him to buy freedom for us”...
We praise You today because Your perfect, sinless Son, in submitting so low and suffering so much (for us!), He redeemed us and SAVED us!
4) “so that He could adopt us as His very own children”...
We praise You because (through faith in Christ) we Believers have been ADOPTED as Your “very own children!” Talk about a “rags-to-riches!” And we did NOTHING to deserve it!
5) “And because we are His children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts”...
We praise You as we consider the wonders of Your divine love and mercy in sending the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts! He (the Holy Spirit) condescended to dwell in us for our GOOD: 1) so we could know You intimately, 2) so we could confidently call You, “Abba, Father,” 3) so we could be changed into the likeness of Your Son, and 4) so we could be empowered to freely live for You!
6) “since you are His child, God has made you His heir.”
Finally, we praise You because we Believers—Your very children—we are Your HEIRS! Through Your Spirit and Word, Lord, grow us so we increasingly have the nature of Your Son: “those who have the nature of sons shall have the inheritance of sons” (Matthew Henry)! We praise You, Lord...
