Joshua 1:5b-9 NAS
I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous...Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
I love what the Lord said to Joshua “after the death of Moses” (Joshua 1:1). These verses are familiar to us because they are popular “go-to” Scriptures used to encourage the Believer. After all...
What child of God doesn't want to be reminded God “will be with” them?
What Kingdom Kid doesn't appreciate remembering the Lord “will not fail (him) or forsake” him?
What follower of Christ doesn't like being reminded to be “strong and courageous”— because God is with her, He will not fail her, she already has victory through Christ, and she “can do all things through Him who strengthens” her (Philippians 4:13)?
Though we truly love those first three reminders, I'm afraid we—as the body of Christ—tend to neglect the most important part. That is, it's the middle peanut-butter-and-jelly part—the part that makes everything else work and stick together—that we tend to forget about or give less attention to: the “be careful” part...
“be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it...”
Brothers and sisters in Christ: have you been forgetting or neglecting the VERY important middle portion? Are you being “careful” and disciplined with God's Word?
Lord Jesus: help us, as a body, to be “strong and courageous” as we stand upon Your wonderful truths...and increasingly make us a people who are “careful”...
“Careful” to “DO according to all the law” (the Bible!) has commanded us,
“Careful” to “NOT turn from” any part Your Word,
“Careful” to always keep Your Words in our minds and on our hearts,
“Careful” to “meditate on it day and night,” so we can “do” as You have instructed!
We ask this in Your name, Lord Jesus! Make us more and more strong, courageous, encouraged, and “CAREFUL!”
