Funny story...

One of our kids had a birthday recently. To her surprise, she received what she wanted most of all—something she KNEW she could not have (we had told her this one item was “too big, too far fetched, and too costly”). So when she realized she RECEIVED this one thing, she just couldn't believe it. The child spent the entire evening thanking her dad (who spent two hours assembling it!). And then the next morning, she still couldn't stop thanking us—her heart was so overjoyed! Matter of fact, she kept coming into our presence...thanking us and hugging us! She just couldn't stop giving thanks for what she had received, folks, because she knew her gift was “too big, too far-fetched, and too costly”...

You know, her response to the gift got my attention. It reminded me of how I should be spending my days—constantly thanking my Father for the gift of His Son. No one else has given such a valuable gift, and no one else ever could...

Lord, may we Believers increasingly “come before (Your) presence with thanksgiving” each day. Your gift to us, our Savior, is the BEST gift of all. Our Jesus is FAR “too big” a gift for us to have done anything to deserve Him! Moreover, the eternal life He gives us is way “too far-fetched”...and yet it is ours! May we praise You again and again, Lord, for Your over-the-top mercy, grace, and lovingkindness: Your free gift of Your Son is the greatest, most “costly” gift of all!
