'My Neglected Friend'
The Lord is a friend to those who fear Him...
John 15:15 NAS
No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you...
So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
Not too long ago I was trying to describe to my youngest what a wonderful friend we have in Jesus...and I ended up making myself feel super cruddy. Our conversation went something like this:
“When your friend comes over, what do you do?”
“We talk and we play together.” My kid looked at me and responded as if I was going batty. “You know that!”
“Yeah, I do.” I laughed. “But would you ever—while your friend was here—stop playing with her, or stop talking with her, or stop listening to her?”
“NO!” exclaimed my child. “That would be SUPER RUDE! That would be SUPER MEAN!”
“Your right. It would.”
“You know I would never do that to my friends, Mom. I'm not that kind of friend.”
“We don't do that to most of our friends” I replied, “but what about our best friend, Jesus? We can't see Him, so we often forget to talk to Him (but He is always with us, waiting to hear from us!). We also forget to listen to Him and His Words as we go about our day...”
My child went away, pondering what I had said...but I went to pray, because I felt so guilty! Folks: how horribly I treat my Best Friend! So often, I forget about and neglect the One who is with me always...
Beloved, my prayer today is that we Believers make increased efforts to draw near to our Best Friend each day—that the Holy Spirit keeps us cognizant of His presence so we increasingly walk with Him, talk with Him, and listen to Him, because...“There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus! No, not one! There's not an hour that He is not near us! No, not one! Was ever a gift like the Savior given? No, not one! Jesus knows all about our struggles," Beloved! Talk with Him and let Him "guide till the day is done! There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus! NO, NOT ONE! NO, NOT ONE!” (Hymn “No, Not One” by Johnson Oatman)
