'Church in Your House!'
Philemon 2 NAS
...and to the church in your house...
Greet the...church that is in her house.
1 Corinthians 16:19
Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
Also greet the church that is in their house.
What is the church?
“Many people today understand the church as a building. This is not a biblical understanding of the church. The word 'church' comes from the Greek word ecclesia which is defined as 'an assembly' or 'called-out ones.' The root meaning of 'church' is not that of a building, but of people...a body of believers.” (www.gotquestions.org).
Brothers and sisters in Christ: Is there a body of Believers living in your house? Under the roof where you live, is there an assembly of called-out ones? Consider today, if your family is made up of Believers, that you have CHURCH in your house! So do your words reflect “church in (your) house?” Do your plans reflect “church in (your) house?” “Do your actions reflect “church in (your) house?” Do the shows you watch, the books you read, and the activities you do reflect “church in (your) house?” Charles Spurgeon said “MORE is expected of a church than of an ordinary household; family worship must, in such a case, be more devout and hearty; internal love must be more warm and unbroken, and external conduct must be more sanctified and Christlike.”
I don't know about you, fellow Believer, but I definitely have some church clean up to do...
Fellow body of Christ: “If there be such a church in your house... order it well, and let all act as in the sight of God. Move in the common affairs of (home) life with studied holiness, diligence, kindness, and integrity” (Spurgeon)--for you have church in your house! In church, we are about worshiping, serving, praying, praising, petitioning, loving, growing, correcting, and preaching about our great Savior and Lord.
